How it works

  1. Activate Viscera Seer by sacrificing Hancock
  2. When Hancock dies, its undying ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter on it.
  3. Resolve the Viscera Seer ability.
  4. Activate Viscera Seer by sacrificing Hancock
  5. When Hancock dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter on it.
  6. Hancock enters and dies as a state-based action due to having 0 toughness. Its undying ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter on it.
  7. Resolve the Viscera Seer ability from step 4.
  8. Repeat from step 4.

This fascinating loop exploits a tug-of-war between opposing resurrection mechanics to continuously recycle Hancock, Ghoulish Mayor through the sacrifice outlet provided by Viscera Seer. While Viscera Seer lets you bin Hancock at will for repeatable scrying, the real engine is fueled by Eirdu, Carrier of Dawn // Isilu, Carrier of Twilight's backside—which grants Hancock persist—allowing it to alternate between returning with +1/+1 counters from its native undying and -1/-1 counters from persist. Because opposing +1/+1 and -1/+1 counters annihilate each other as a state-based action when both are present, Hancock's counters never permanently accumulate to lock it out of the graveyard, letting you farm infinite death and entry triggers at whim.
