How it works

1. When a land enters the battlefield, it becomes a Swamp due to Kormus Bell. This then causes it to become a 0/0 creature due to Urborg and Kaervek, and die as a state-based action due to having 0 toughness.

This classic brew relies on a brutal passive lock to entirely strip the board of mana. Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth turns every land on the battlefield into a Swamp, which Kormus Bell then animates into 1/1 creatures. As soon as those lands become creatures, Kaervek, the Spiteful immediately applies a -1/-1 penalty to them that reduces their toughness to zero, causing them to instantly perish as a state-based action. The result is a total lockdown that destroys all current and future lands the moment they hit the battlefield.
