How it works

1. Activate Phyrexian Altar by sacrificing Restless Apparition.
2. When Restless Apparition dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield without a -1/-1 counter on it due to Melira.
3. Repeat.

This clever loop turns an ordinary spirit into a bottomless well of mana by exploiting a brilliant rules interaction between Melira, Sylvok Outcast and persist. While Phyrexian Altar provides the sacrifice outlet and the colored mana generation, it's Melira's static ability that does the heavy lifting, completely preventing the -1/-1 counters that would normally shut down Restless Apparition's persist trigger. Because the Apparition returns to the battlefield clean every single time it dies, you can feed it back into the Altar indefinitely for an endless stream of sacrifice triggers, deaths, and any color of mana you could possibly desire.
