How it works

1. Activate Phantom Train by sacrificing Restless Apparition.
2. When Restless Apparition dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter on it.
3. Resolve the Phantom Train ability.
4. Activate Phantom Train by sacrificing Restless Apparition.
5. When Restless Apparition dies, its undying ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter on it.
6. Resolve the Phantom Train ability.
7. Repeat.

This clever loop relies on the brilliant interaction between Mikaeus, the Unhallowed and Restless Apparition to continually trade counters. Because Mikaeus grants undying to your non-Human creatures, and Restless Apparition naturally possesses persist, these two abilities constantly cancel each other out when the Apparition dies—allowing it to return to the battlefield alternating between a +1/+1 and a -1/-1 counter. Phantom Train acts as the sacrifice outlet that drives this engine forward while simultaneously growing larger with infinite +1/+1 counters.
