How it works

1. Activate Kumena's first ability by tapping another nontoken Merfolk you control.
2. Deeproot Pilgrimage triggers, creating a 1/1 Merfolk creature token.
3. Resolve the Kumena ability.
4. Activate Carrion Feeder by sacrificing the Merfolk token.
5. When the Merfolk dies, Faces of the Past triggers, untapping all Merfolk.
6. Resolve the Carrion Feeder ability.
7. Repeat.

This intricate engine uses Kumena, Tyrant of Orazca to kick things off by tapping a nontoken Merfolk, which immediately triggers Deeproot Pilgrimage to replace it with a fresh 1/1 token. You then feed that token to Carrion Feeder, setting off Faces of the Past to untap your entire Merfolk squad the moment the token dies. Because every single sacrifice and tap feeds right back into an untap through shared creature types, you can endlessly cycle through Kumena's various tapping abilities—including card draw and global +1/+1 counters—while constantly growing your Carrion Feeder to monstrous proportions.
