How it works

1. Play Glacial Chasm either from your hand or from your graveyard.
2. When Glacial Chasm enters the battlefield, its second ability triggers, causing you to sacrifice another land you control.
3. Play any land from your graveyard.
4. At the beginning of your next upkeep, Glacial Chasm's cumulative upkeep ability and The Gitrog Monster's first ability trigger.
5. Resolve The Gitrog Monster trigger, sacrificing Glacial Chasm.
6. Resolve the Glacial Chasm trigger, choosing not to pay and doing nothing as Glacial Chasm is no longer on the battlefield.
7. Repeat.

This clever lock leverages Glacial Chasm to completely blank all damage dealt to you, bypassing its steep cumulative upkeep by deliberately sacrificing the land to satisfy The Gitrog Monster's own upkeep requirement instead. Because Crucible of Worlds lets you seamlessly replay Glacial Chasm from your graveyard turn after turn, its entry trigger forces you to sacrifice a land—which is immediately mitigated by playing that very same land right back out of your graveyard. Furthermore, every time you cycle lands to the graveyard and back, The Gitrog Monster rewards your resource loop by drawing you an extra card, turning a defensive lockdown into a well-oiled card advantage engine.
