How it works

1. Activate Bloodflow Connoisseur by sacrificing Safehold Elite.
2. When Safehold Elite dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter on it.
3. Hardened Academic triggers, putting a +1/+1 counter on Safehold Elite.
4. Resolve the Bloodflow Connoisseur ability.
5. Repeat.

This clever loop turns a modest sacrifice outlet into an infinite engine by neutralizing the primary drawback of the persist mechanic. When you sacrifice Safehold Elite to Bloodflow Connoisseur, the Elite's persist trigger returns it to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter, but Hardened Academic brilliantly steps in with a +1/+1 counter whenever a card leaves your graveyard, effectively canceling out the -1/-1 counter through state-based actions.
