How it works

1. Cast First Day of Class by paying 1
2. Activate Goblin Trashmaster by sacrificing Putrid Goblin
3. When Putrid Goblin dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter on it.
4. When Putrid Goblin enters, First Day of Class triggers, putting a +1/+1 counter on Putrid Goblin.
5. Resolve the Goblin Trashmaster ability.
6. Repeat from step 2

This clever loop turns Putrid Goblin into an endless engine of sacrifice by exploiting the counter-canceling math of Magic rules. Because First Day of Class grants an arriving creature a +1/+1 counter just as persist tries to return Putrid Goblin with a -1/-1 counter, the two counters annihilate each other and leave the Goblin completely clean of counters. That means Goblin Trashmaster can repeatedly sacrifice the creature to its own ability without ever running out of recursion targets. Meanwhile, the constant influx of Goblins ensures Goblin Trashmaster's static lord effect keeps the entire board thoroughly buffed while you generate an infinite storm of enters-the-battlefield and death triggers.
