Ordinarily, untapping Steelswarm Operator would cost two mana and a blue, but Zirda's passive ability slashes that generic cost down to just a single blue mana. Because Steelswarm Operator can tap for two blue mana dedicated strictly to artifact abilities, it easily pays for the Sages' discounted activation while netting you infinite untaps and infinite restricted mana.
