How it works

1. Whenever a creature enters the battlefield, Lethal Vapors triggers, destroying that creature.
2. Because Damping Matrix prevents Lethal Vapors's activated ability from being activated, it cannot be destroyed due to its ability.

This clever lock turns the battlefield into a permanent no-fly zone by rewriting the fundamental rules of permanents with Mycosynth Lattice, which turns every single permanent into an artifact. While Lethal Vapors is normally kept in check by its own self-destruct button, the presence of Damping Matrix steps in to silence the activated abilities of all artifacts and creatures—barring mana abilities—effectively sealing away the enchantment's escape hatch. As a result, any creature that dares to enter the battlefield is immediately met with Lethal Vapors's triggered destruction, locking opponents out of creature-based strategies entirely without any way to dismantle the enchantment from within.
