How it works

  1. Activate Gilded Lotus by tapping it, adding U manaU manaU mana.
  2. Cast Echo Storm by paying 3U manaU mana, targeting Rod of Absorption.
  3. Echo Storm triggers, copying itself for each time you've cast your commander from the command zone this game, with each copy targeting Gilded Lotus.
  4. Resolve all copies of Echo Storm, creating that many token copies of Gilded Lotus.
  5. Resolve the original Echo Storm, creating a token copy of Rod of Absorption and exiling Echo Storm due to Rod of Absorption.
  6. Activate two Gilded Lotus tokens by tapping them, adding six mana of any color.
  7. Activate the original Rod of Absorption by paying 5, tapping and sacrificing it, causing you to cast Echo Storm from exile without paying its mana cost, targeting the Rod of Absorption token.
  8. Repeat from step 3.
  9. Once you have infinite mana, you may target any other artifact you control using Echo Storm.

This loop turns a single cast of Echo Storm into an escalating factory of artifacts and mana, all powered by the quiet, game-altering replacement effect of Rod of Absorption catching your spells as they resolve. By cloning your mana source with Gilded Lotus copies and continuously bringing back Echo Storm from exile using the Rod's sacrifice ability, you perpetually feed the storm while generating massive surpluses of colored mana. Because Rod of Absorption conveniently exiles Echo Storm instead of letting it hit the graveyard, you never have to recast it from the command zone, allowing you to cycle through these exact same steps to duplicate any artifact you control infinitely.
