How it works

1. Activate Grim Poppet by removing a -1/-1 counter from it, putting a -1/-1 counter on Progenitor Mimic.
2. Nest of Scarabs triggers, creating a creature token.
3. Activate Progenitor Mimic by removing a -1/-1 counter from it, putting a -1/-1 counter on Grim Poppet.
4. Nest of Scarabs triggers, creating a creature token.
5. Repeat.

This clever loop turns the natural push-and-pull of -1/-1 counters into an endless swarm of bugs. By using Grim Poppet's activated ability to strip its own counters and place them elsewhere, you trigger Nest of Scarabs to flood the board with insect tokens. Progenitor Mimic serves as the vital mirror in this dance; because it can receive counters and then shed them back onto Grim Poppet, the two creatures can endlessly trade counters back and forth to keep Nest of Scarabs generating infinite tokens and creature enter-the-battlefield triggers.
