How it works

1. At the beginning of your upkeep, Sands of Time triggers.
2. Holding priority, activate any number of permanents you control by tapping them, adding at least 3.
3. Activate Strionic Resonator by paying 2 and tapping it, copying Sands of Time's ability.
4. Resolve the copy of Sands of Time's ability, untapping all tapped artifacts, creatures and lands you control and tapping all untapped artifacts, creatures, and lands you control.
5. Repeat from step 2.

This clever loop exploits the peculiar rhythm of Sands of Time, which replaces each player's standard untap step with a bizarre upkeep-triggered phase reversal that toggles the state of all your permanents. Because Sands of Time puts a triggered ability on the stack at the beginning of your upkeep, you can tap your mana-producing permanents for resources in response and still have them ready to untap. By paying for and activating Strionic Resonator to copy that crucial upkeep trigger, you trigger an additional toggle that instantly untaps everything you just tapped—including Strionic Resonator itself and any mana sources you used to pay for it. Repeating this process lets you churn through endless cycles of tapping and untapping, yielding infinite mana from any permanents you control that can produce it.
