How it works

1. Put a -1/-1 counter on any creature you control with toughness equal to 1. The creatue dies as a state-based action due to having zero toughness, triggering Nest of Scarabs and Resourceful Defense.
2. Resolve the Resourceful Defense trigger, putting a -1/-1 counter on any creature you control with toughness equal to 1.
3. Resolve the Nest of Scarabs trigger, creating a 1/1 creature token.
4. Repeat from step 2.

This loop turns the simple act of placing a -1/-1 counter into an endless engine of sacrifice and resurrection, fueled by Nest of Scarabs generating a fresh 1/1 Insect token every time a creature succumbs to having zero toughness. As your doomed creatures leave the battlefield, Resourceful Defense steps in with its crucial triggered ability to preserve and redirect those deadly -1/-1 counters onto your remaining creatures, keeping the chain reaction moving without ever running out of ammunition. If you ever need to manually adjust the flow of counters, Resourceful Defense's activated ability is also there to move them around at will, ensuring your loop remains resilient and under your control.
