How it works

1. Cast the artifact by paying 0.
2. Toph, Hardheaded Teacher triggers, earthbending Golgari Rot Farm.
3. Resolve the artifact spell.
4. Activate Ashnod's Altar by sacrificing Golgari Rot Farm.
5. When Golgari Rot Farm dies, Toph, Hardheaded Teach triggers, returning Golgari Rot Farm from your graveyard to the battlefield tapped.
6. When Golgari Rot Farm enters, it triggers, returning the artifact cast in step 1 from the battlefield to your hand, as it's a land due to Toph, the First Metalbender.
7. Repeat.

This clever loop turns the static land-transforming power of Toph, the First Metalbender into an infinite mana and trigger engine by turning a cheap artifact into a land that can bounce itself. With Toph, the First Metalbender actively reclassifying your non-token artifacts as lands, casting your zero-mana artifact lets Golgari Rot Farm's entry trigger target it and return it to your hand. Meanwhile, Ashnod's Altar provides the sacrifice outlet to bin the earthbent Golgari Rot Farm, whose death triggers its own return to the battlefield thanks to Toph, Hardheaded Teacher's persistence. As you endlessly recast, sacrifice, and bounce your pieces, Toph, Hardheaded Teacher also throws in bonus earthbending triggers on every spell cast to fuel a massive army of land creatures alongside your infinite colorless mana.
