How it works

1. Cast the artifact by paying 0.
2. Toph, Hardheaded Teacher triggers, earthbending Golgari Rot Farm.
3. Resolve the artifact spell.
4. Activate Altar of Dementia by sacrificing Golgari Rot Farm.
5. When Golgari Rot Farm dies, Toph, Hardheaded Teach triggers, returning Golgari Rot Farm from your graveyard to the battlefield tapped.
6. When Golgari Rot Farm enters, it triggers, returning the artifact cast in step 1 from the battlefield to your hand, as it's a land due to Toph, the First Metalbender.
7. Resolve the Altar of Dementia ability
8. Repeat.

This ingenious loop turns a simple zero-mana artifact into a self-returning engine by leveraging Toph, the First Metalbender's static ability to transform all your nontoken artifacts into lands. Once Golgari Rot Farm is animated into a creature via earthbend from Toph, Hardheaded Teacher, you can immediately sacrifice it to Altar of Dementia to mill an opponent. Because earthbending ensures Golgari Rot Farm returns to the battlefield tapped when it dies, its own entry trigger fires and forces you to bounce a land—and since your zero-mana artifact is currently a land thanks to the First Metalbender, you can pick it right back up to recast it, restarting the cycle and fueling infinite sacrifices, mill, and storm count.
