How it works

1. Cast the artifact by paying 0.
2. Toph, Hardheaded Teacher triggers, earthbending Golgari Rot Farm.
3. Resolve the artifact spell.
4. Activate Trenching Steed by sacrificing Golgari Rot Farm.
5. When Golgari Rot Farm dies, Toph, Hardheaded Teach triggers, returning Golgari Rot Farm from your graveyard to the battlefield tapped.
6. When Golgari Rot Farm enters, it triggers, returning the artifact cast in step 1 from the battlefield to your hand, as it's a land due to Toph, the First Metalbender.
7. Resolve the Trenching Steed ability
8. Repeat.

This engine relies on Toph, the First Metalbender to ingeniously redefine your nontoken artifacts as lands, turning cheap artifacts into valid targets for Golgari Rot Farm's bounce effect. By feeding those newly minted artifact-lands to Trenching Steed, you send Golgari Rot Farm to the graveyard, which immediately triggers Toph, Hardheaded Teacher to return the Rot Farm straight back to the battlefield. Finally, the entering Golgari Rot Farm triggers its own ability, bouncing your original artifact back to your hand so you can recast it endlessly, all while Toph, Hardheaded Teacher triggers upon every single spell cast to continually animate your lands.
