How it works

1. Activate Deathbringer Thoctar by removing a +1/+1 counter from it, dealing 1 damage to itself.
2. Rite of Passage triggers, putting two +1/+1 counters on Deathbringer Thoctar.
3. Repeat an arbitrarily large number of times.
4. Move to the next turn, removing all damage marked on Deathbringer Thoctar.
5. Activate Deathbringer Thoctar by removing a +1/+1 counter from it, dealing 1 damage to any target.
6. Repeat step 5 as desired.

This clever loop turns Deathbringer Thoctar into a self-sustaining artillery piece by aiming its own ability inward at itself. Thanks to Rite of Passage, surviving that self-inflicted damage triggers a reward, placing a +1/+1 counter back onto the creature to keep the cycle going. The real catalyst for exponential growth here is Loading Zone, whose replacement effect doubles every single counter put onto your creatures—meaning a single trigger yields twice the counters you need to keep firing. Once you have built up an arbitrarily large stockpile of power, you can simply pivot Deathbringer Thoctar's wrath away from itself and direct all that accumulated damage at any opposing target.
