How it works

1. Activate Bartolomé del Presidio by sacrificing the persist creature.
2. When the persist creature dies, it and Dragon Appeasement trigger.
3. Resolve the Dragon Appeasement trigger, causing you to draw a card.
4. Resolve the persist creature's trigger, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter on it.
5. When the persist creature enters the battlefield, Olivia triggers, putting a +1/+1 counter on the persist creature and causing you to discard a card.
6. Resolve the Bartolomé del Presidio ability.
7. Repeat.

This clever loop turns the self-sacrificing nature of a persist creature into a self-sustaining engine by letting Bartolomé del Presidio repeatedly offer it up for a snack. Each time the creature returns, Dragon Appeasement rewards that sacrifice by letting you draw a card, replacing the draw step you cheerfully skip. At the same time, Olivia, Mobilized for War steps in upon entry to hand out a +1/+1 counter and force a card discard—which conveniently neutralizes the creature's -1/-1 counter and feeds right back into the engine.
