How it works

1. Activate Bartolomé del Presidio by sacrificing Virtuous Variant.
2. When Virtuous Variant dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter on it.
3. When Virtuous Variant enters, it triggers, putting a +1/+1 counter on it.
4. Resolve the Bartolomé del Presidio ability.
5. Repeat.

This loop relies on the clever interplay of resurrection and counter-neutralization, anchored by the front face of Eirdu, Carrier of Dawn // Isilu, Carrier of Twilight granting persist to your other nontoken creatures. When you sacrifice Virtuous Variant to Bartolomé del Presidio, its newly granted persist brings it straight back from the graveyard with a -1/-1 counter, but its own enter-the-battlefield ability immediately places a +1/+1 counter on it to cancel out that penalty. Because state-based actions immediately annihilate the opposing +1/+1 and -1/+1 counters simultaneously, Virtuous Variant is left completely clean and ready to be sacrificed all over again.
