How it works

1. Activate Phyrexian Altar by sacrificing Iron League Steed.
2. When Iron League Steed dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter on it.
3. When Iron League Steed enters, its fabricate ability triggers, putting a +1/+1 counter on it.
4. Repeat.

This clever loop relies on Isilu, Carrier of Twilight granting persist to your nontoken creatures, turning every trip to the graveyard into a return trip to the battlefield. When you sacrifice Iron League Steed to Phyrexian Altar, it generates a mana of any color and triggers that persist ability, bringing the Steed right back with a -1/-1 counter. Fortunately, the Steed's fabricate ability enters the mix to slap a +1/+1 counter on it, instantly neutralizing the -1/-1 counter through state-based actions and leaving the creature pristine and ready to be sacrificed all over again. While Eirdu, Carrier of Dawn sets the stage on the front side, it's this resilient cycle of life, death, and metal that fuels infinite colored mana and endless death triggers for your engine.
