How it works

1. Activate Sling-Gang Lieutenant by sacrificing Putrid Goblin
2. When Putrid Goblin dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter on it.
3. When Putrid Goblin enters, Cathars' Crusade triggers, putting a +1/+1 counter on each creature you control.
4. Resolve the Sling-Gang Lieutenant ability.
5. Repeat.

This clever loop transforms a humble goblin into an endless cycle of sacrifice and rebirth by weaponizing the interaction between creature counters. Whenever you feed Putrid Goblin to Sling-Gang Lieutenant, its persist ability brings it straight back to the battlefield bearing a -1/-1 counter, but Cathars' Crusade immediately counters this penalty by placing a +1/+1 counter on every creature you control. Because -1/-1 and +1/+1 counters annihilate each other through state-based actions, Putrid Goblin ends up clean of counters and ready to be sacrificed all over again, letting Sling-Gang Lieutenant drain your opponents' life totals down to zero.
