How it works

1. Activate Ashnod's Altar by sacrificing Putrid Goblin, adding CC.
2. Putrid Goblin dies, triggering its persist ability, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter on it.
3. Activate Slimefoot by paying 4, creating a 1/1 Saproling creature token.
4. The Saproling enters the battlefield, triggering Ivy Lane Denizen, putting a +1/+1 counter on Putrid Goblin.
5. Activate Ashnod's Altar by sacrificing the Saproling, adding CC.
6. The Saproling dies, triggering Slimefoot, dealing 1 damage to each opponent and causing you to gain 1 life.
7. Repeat.

This clever loop turns Putrid Goblin into an engine of endless attrition by weaponizing its persist mechanic alongside the mana-crafting prowess of Ashnod's Altar. Whenever the goblin is sacrificed, it bounces right back with a -1/+1 counter issue, which Ivy Lane Denizen neatly cancels out by placing a fresh +1/+1 counter on it every time a new Saproling token enters the battlefield. Those tokens are churned out using mana from the altar and fueled by Slimefoot, the Stowaway—whose passive drain ability ensures that every time a sacrificed Saproling bites the dust, your opponents bleed out while you gain life.
