How it works

1. Activate Carrion Feeder by sacrificing Putrid Goblin.
2. When Putrid Goblin dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter on it.
3. Hardened Academic triggers, putting a +1/+1 counter on Putrid Goblin.
4. Resolve the Carrion Feeder ability.
5. Repeat.

This clever loop turns a modest goblin into an engine of endless rebirth by leveraging Putrid Goblin's persist ability alongside the sacrificial hunger of Carrion Feeder. Each time the Goblin hits the graveyard, it returns with a -1/-1 counter, but Hardened Academic steps in with its passive trigger whenever cards leave your graveyard, promptly placing a +1/+1 counter on the Goblin to completely cancel out the penalty. This neutralization allows the persist mechanic to trigger over and over again, fueling Carrion Feeder to grow infinitely large while generating an unbroken stream of enter-the-battlefield, leave-the-battlefield, and death triggers.
