How it works

1. Activate Goblin Bombardment by sacrificing Putrid Goblin
2. When Putrid Goblin dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter on it.
3. When Putrid Goblin enters, Stalwart Successor triggers, putting a +1/+1 counter on Putrid Goblin
4. Resolve the Goblin Bombardment ability.
5. Repeat.

This clever loop transforms a humble common into a relentless engine of destruction by turning persist's native drawback into an advantage. When you sacrifice Putrid Goblin to Goblin Bombardment, it triggers its own return to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter, but the presence of Stalwart Successor immediately answers that entry by placing a +1/+1 counter on it. Because state-based actions neutralize opposing +1/+1 and -1/-1 counters by removing one of each simultaneously, Putrid Goblin is left completely clean of counters and ready to be sacrificed all over again.
