How it works

1. Activate Altar of Dementia by sacrificing Putrid Goblin.
2. When Putrid Goblin dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield without a -1/-1 counter on it due to Melira.
3. Resolve the Altar of Dementia ability
4. Repeat.

This insidious loop turns a gruesome little goblin into an endless millstone by exploiting the interaction between persist and Melira, Sylvok Outcast. Normally, Putrid Goblin would return from the dead weighed down by a -1/-1 counter that permanently shuts off its own resurrection, but Melira's static ability prevents those counters from ever being placed. With that safety net holding strong, you can repeatedly sacrifice the goblin to Altar of Dementia, milling away your opponent's entire library one recursion at a time.
