How it works

1. Activate Goblin Chirurgeon by sacrificing Putrid Goblin
2. When Putrid Goblin dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter on it.
3. When Putrid Goblin enters, its fabricate ability triggers, putting a +1/+1 counter on it.
4. Resolve the Goblin Chirurgeon ability.
5. Repeat.

This clever loop turns Cayth, Famed Mechanist into an engine of perpetual motion, leveraging her static ability to grant fabricate 1 to other nontoken creatures. When Goblin Chirurgeon sacrifices Putrid Goblin to regenerate a target, the Goblin triggers its own persist ability to return to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter. However, thanks to Cayth, Famed Mechanist granting fabricate 1, the returning Putrid Goblin triggers its newly acquired ability, allowing you to place a +1/+1 counter on it. Because +1/+1 and -1/-1 counters annihilate each other as a state-based action, the Putrid Goblin is left pristine and ready to be sacrificed to Goblin Chirurgeon all over again.
