How it works

1. Activate Ashnod's Altar by sacrificing Putrid Goblin.
2. When Putrid Goblin dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield without a -1/-1 counter on it due to Vizier of Remedies.
3. Repeat.

This classic loop relies on the brilliant interaction between Putrid Goblin and Vizier of Remedies: whenever the Goblin dies, its persist ability would normally return it with a -1/-1 counter, but Vizier of Remedies steps in to reduce that amount to zero, leaving the creature completely clean and ready to persist again. Ashnod's Altar acts as the engine that fuels the entire operation, converting each sacrifice of Putrid Goblin into a steady stream of colorless mana while simultaneously triggering the death that restarts the cycle. Together, these three pieces create an endless loop of sacrifices and returns, generating infinite mana, death triggers, and enters-the-battlefield effects.
