How it works

2. Tap Heartless Hidetsugu to deal opponent life equal to their lifetotal.

With Platinum Angel safely on the battlefield, you are completely insulated from the lethal backlash of Heartless Hidetsugu's activated ability, which halves each player's life total in one devastating sweep. By pre-loading Quest for Pure Flame with four counters, you can crack it in response to the ogre's tap to double that damage output. This mathematically guarantees that any opponent with an even life total is instantly reduced to zero (or rounded down to zero and finished off), bypassing the usual symmetry of the effect and turning Hidetsugu's equal-opportunity devastation into a one-sided execution.
