How it works
- Animate Five Hundred Year Diary using Tough Cookie.
- Activate Five Hundred Year Diary by tapping it, adding for each Clue you control
- Activate Voltaic Construct by paying 2, untapping Five Hundred Year Diary.
- Repeat from step 2.
This clever loop transforms our utility artifacts into a self-sustaining mana engine, legal in Commander, Legacy, Oathbreaker, and Vintage. By using Tough Cookie's second ability to animate Five Hundred Year Diary into a 4/4 artifact creature, the Diary becomes a legal target for Voltaic Construct. Once animated, we tap Five Hundred Year Diary to generate blue mana based on our Clue count—though notice that even with zero Clues, the Construct's untap cost of {2} is offset if we have other mana sources, or fuels a mana-positive loop if our Clue count is high enough. Finally, Voltaic Construct pays for its own ability using the generated mana to untap the Diary endlessly, creating infinite blue mana and infinite untaps for your artifact creatures!
