How it works

1. Activate Ghave by paying 1 and removing a +1/+1 counter from a creature you control to create a 1/1 Saproling creature token.
2. Champion of the Perished triggers, putting a +1/+1 counter on itself.
3. Activate Ashnod's Altar by sacrificing the Saproling token, adding CC.
4. Repeat.

This brilliant loop starts with Maskwood Nexus, whose passive ability turns every creature you control into a Zombie, allowing tokens like the Saprolings created by Ghave, Guru of Spores to immediately fuel Champion of the Perished with +1/+1 counters as they enter. With that foundational synergy in place, you pay Ghave's activation cost using a counter from a creature, turn the resulting token into a pair of colorless mana using Ashnod's Altar, and reinvest a fraction of that mana to repeat the cycle. This engine continuously grows your Champion of the Perished while generating boundless mana, tokens, and triggers to overwhelm the table.
