How it works

  1. Activate Altar of Dementia by sacrificing the persist creature.
  2. The sacrificed creature's persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter on it.
  3. The Great Henge triggers, putting a +1/+1 counter on the persist creature and causing you to draw a card.
  4. The -1/-1 and +1/+1 counters are removed as a state-based action.
  5. Resolve the ability from step 1.
  6. Repeat.
