How it works
- Activate Xavier Sal's second ability by tapping it and sacrificing another creature, putting a +1/+1 counter on it and Herd Baloth.
- Herd Baloth triggers, creating a creature token.
- Activate Xavier Sal using Devoted Druid's second ability by putting a -1/-1 counter on it, untapping Xavier Sal.
- Repeat.
This fascinating engine relies on Agatha's Soul Cauldron to strip Devoted Druid of its usual limitations by exiling it and granting its activated abilities to Xavier Sal, Infested Captain—fueled by the Cauldron's ability to let you spend mana of any color and place +1/+1 counters. By placing a -1/-1 counter on Xavier Sal to untap it via the borrowed Devoted Druid ability, you generate the mana and untaps needed to keep the loop rolling. Meanwhile, every time a counter is placed, Herd Baloth steps in to churn out a 4/4 green Beast creature token, providing a steady supply of fodder. Finally, Xavier Sal, Infested Captain uses those sacrificed creatures to proliferate your board state endlessly, growing your creatures out of control while flooding the battlefield with infinite beasts.
