How it works

1. Cast the artifact by paying 0.
2. Toph, Hardheaded Teacher triggers, earthbending Azorius Chancery.
3. Resolve the artifact spell.
4. Activate Trenching Steed by sacrificing Azorius Chancery.
5. When Azorius Chancery dies, Toph, Hardheaded Teach triggers, returning Azorius Chancery from your graveyard to the battlefield tapped.
6. When Azorius Chancery enters, it triggers, returning the artifact cast in step 1 from the battlefield to your hand, as it's a land due to Toph, the First Metalbender.
7. Resolve the Trenching Steed ability
8. Repeat.

This clever loop relies on Toph, the First Metalbender transforming your cheap artifacts into lands right under your nose, letting Azorius Chancery treat them as valid targets to bounce back to your hand upon entering the battlefield. Once Azorius Chancery is safely in play, you can sacrifice it to Trenching Steed to pump its toughness, triggering Toph, Hardheaded Teacher to rescue the land straight out of your graveyard and right back onto the battlefield. As that returning Azorius Chancery resolves its entry trigger, it scoops up your original zero-mana artifact back to your hand so you can cast it all over again—fueling Toph, Hardheaded Teacher's cast-triggered earthbending and generating an endless cycle of sacrifice, landfall, and storm counts.
