How it works

1. Activate Phyrexian Altar by sacrificing Nether Traitor, adding .
2. When Nether Traitor dies, Open the Graves triggers, creating a creature token.
3. Activate Phyrexian Altar by sacrificing the creature token, adding one mana of any color.
4. When the creature token dies, Nether Traitor triggers, causing you to pay to return Nether Traitor from your graveyard to the battlefield.
5. Repeat.

This ingenious loop relies on a clever ecosystem of sacrifice and resurrection to keep the mana flowing indefinitely. You begin by feeding Nether Traitor to Phyrexian Altar, which immediately generates the black mana needed to fuel the Traitor's own recursive trigger. Meanwhile, Open the Graves watches from the sidelines, dutifully replacing your fallen shadow creature with a 2/2 Zombie token every time it dies.
