How it works

1. Cast the artifact by paying 0.
2. Toph, Hardheaded Teacher triggers, earthbending Rakdos Carnarium.
3. Resolve the artifact spell.
4. Activate Phyrexian Altar by sacrificing Rakdos Carnarium.
5. When Rakdos Carnarium dies, Toph, Hardheaded Teach triggers, returning Rakdos Carnarium from your graveyard to the battlefield tapped.
6. When Rakdos Carnarium enters, it triggers, returning the artifact cast in step 1 from the battlefield to your hand, as it's a land due to Toph, the First Metalbender.
7. Repeat.

This clever engine uses Toph, the First Metalbender to completely redefine your board state, turning all your nontoken artifacts into lands that don't inherently tap for mana. With that crucial type-shifting foundation in place, you drop a free artifact to trigger Toph, Hardheaded Teacher, which earthbends Rakdos Carnarium into an active land-creature. You then feed that animated land to Phyrexian Altar for any color of mana; because of Toph, the First Metalbender's passive ruling, its death triggers the safety net of Toph, Hardheaded Teacher to bring Rakdos Carnarium straight back to the battlefield tapped. When Rakdos Carnarium re-enters, its own trigger forces you to bounce a land, and thanks to Toph, the First Metalbender, that bounced land can be the very artifact you started with—ready to cast all over again for an infinite storm count, endless mana, and a cascade of creature triggers.
