How it works

1. Cast the artifact by paying 0.
2. Toph, Hardheaded Teacher triggers, earthbending Rakdos Carnarium.
3. Resolve the artifact spell.
4. Activate Coastal Hornclaw by sacrificing Rakdos Carnarium.
5. When Rakdos Carnarium dies, Toph, Hardheaded Teach triggers, returning Rakdos Carnarium from your graveyard to the battlefield tapped.
6. When Rakdos Carnarium enters, it triggers, returning the artifact cast in step 1 from the battlefield to your hand, as it's a land due to Toph, the First Metalbender.
7. Resolve the Coastal Hornclaw ability
8. Repeat.

This clever loop turns the battlefield into an engine by using Toph, the First Metalbender to seamlessly transform your nontoken artifacts into lands, completely altering what your permanents can do. With that foundation set, you can sacrifice Rakdos Carnarium to Coastal Hornclaw; because Rakdos Carnarium is a land, its death triggers Toph, Hardheaded Teacher to return it straight to the battlefield. When Rakdos Carnarium re-enters, its own triggered ability forces you to bounce a land, which you use to scoop up your free artifact—and thanks to the static type-changing ability of Toph, the First Metalbender, that artifact counts as a land to satisfy the bounce. This infinite cycle of sacrificing, recurring, and bouncing generates endless triggers for your engines while Toph, Hardheaded Teacher keeps your earthbending and recursion running at full tilt.
