How it works

1. Cast Chain of Smog by paying 1, targeting yourself.
2. Witherbloom Pledgemage triggers, causing you to gain 1 life.
3. Resolve Chain of Smog, causing you to discard two cards and copy Chain of Smog, targeting yourself.
4. Repeat from step 2.

This clever little loop turns Chain of Smog’s self-targeting drawback into a win by continuously copying the spell while targeting yourself. As you do, Witherbloom Pledgemage’s magecraft ability watches every single copy go on the stack, happily triggering to give you infinite life. Because you can always choose yourself as the target of the copied Chain of Smog—even with an empty hand—the chain never breaks, letting you endlessly repeat the process until the game is won.
