How it works

  1. Activate Phyrexian Altar by sacrificing Golgari Thug, adding 1.
  2. When Golgari Thug dies, it, Pitiless Plunderer and Korvold's second ability trigger.
  3. Resolve the Golgari Thug trigger, putting it on top of your library from your graveyard.
  4. Resolve the Pitiless Plunderer trigger, creating a Treasure token.
  5. Resolve the Korvold trigger, putting a +1/+1 counter on it and causing you to draw Golgari Thug from the top of your library.
  6. Activate the Treasure by tapping and sacrificing it, adding B mana.
  7. Cast Golgari Thug by paying 1B mana.
  8. Repeat.
  9. If desired, you may instead use Golgari Thug's dredge ability to return it to your hand to mill your library.

This clever loop turns Phyrexian Altar into an engine that continuously feeds your graveyard and hand while growing your board. By sacrificing Golgari Thug to the Altar, you trigger Pitiless Plunderer to mint a Treasure token and Korvold, Fae-Cursed King to reward the sacrifice with card draw. That draw replaces itself with Golgari Thug's own trigger returning it to the top of your library, allowing you to recast it using the mana from your sacrificed Treasure and Altar.
