How it works

1. Give Walking Ballista lifelink, if needed.
2. If Walking Ballista has less than two +1/+1 counters on it, activate Unspeakable Symbol by paying 3 life, putting a +1/+1 counter on Walking Ballista.
3. Activate Walking Ballista's second ability by removing a +1/+1 counter from it, dealing 4 damage to an opponent or a permanent an opponent controls, and causing you to gain 4 life.
4. Repeat from step 2.

This lethal loop turns your own life total into a resource for absolute destruction, brilliantly fueled by Unspeakable Symbol's ability to repeatedly invest 3 life to place a +1/+1 counter onto Walking Ballista. Once Walking Ballista has a counter to spare, removing it to deal 1 damage becomes an apocalyptic blast because both Furnace of Rath and Gratuitous Violence apply their replacement effects to double that damage not once, but twice, turning a single point of pinging into a devastating 4 damage. If you ensure Walking Ballista also has lifelink from an outside source, each of those 4-damage shots gains you enough life to comfortably pay for Unspeakable Symbol's cost over and over again, allowing you to easily machine-gun down every opponent and permanent in your path.
