How it works

1. Activate Phyrexian Altar by sacrificing Shepherd of the Cosmos, adding one mana of any color.
2. When Shepherd of the Cosmos dies, Necrogen Communion triggers, returning Shepherd of the Cosmos from your graveyard to the battlefield.
3. When Shepherd of the Cosmos enters the battlefield, it triggers, returning Necrogen Communion from your graveyard to the battlefield attached to Shepherd of the Cosmos.
4. Repeat.

This loop achieves an infinite cycle of life and death by weaponizing the recursion baked into Shepherd of the Cosmos and Necrogen Communion. When you sacrifice the Shepherd to Phyrexian Altar for mana, the Communion immediately resurrects it, and the returning Shepherd's entry trigger simultaneously reaches into the graveyard to pull back Necrogen Communion, reattaching it right back to the Shepherd. Because the Shepherd's mana value is 2 or less, it constantly targets itself and the enchantment in a seamless self-sustaining loop.
