How it works

1. Activate Phantom Train by sacrificing Shepherd of the Cosmos.
2. When Shepherd of the Cosmos dies, Necrogen Communion triggers, returning Shepherd of the Cosmos from your graveyard to the battlefield.
3. When Shepherd of the Cosmos enters the battlefield, it triggers, returning Necrogen Communion from your graveyard to the battlefield attached to Shepherd of the Cosmos.
4. Resolve the Phantom Train ability, putting a +1/+1 counter on it.
5. Repeat.

This clever loop turns Phantom Train into a bottomless pit of sacrifice fodder, fueled entirely by a self-sustaining cycle of resurrection. When you feed Shepherd of the Cosmos to the Train's ability, Necrogen Communion immediately steps in to drag the Shepherd right back from the graveyard. That return triggers the Shepherd's own enter-the-battlefield ability, which plucks the Necrogen Communion back out of the graveyard and re-attaches it to the Shepherd, setting the stage to repeat the whole sequence over and over.
