How it works

1. Gain life.
2. Fathom Mage triggers, putting a +1/+1 counter on itself
3. Fathom Mage triggers, causing you to draw a card.
4. Starving Revenant triggers, causing you to gain 1 life and target opponent to lose 1 life.
5. Repeat from step 2.

This clever loop turns a simple spark of life into an unstoppable engine of growth and attrition. Once you enchant Fathom Mage with Light of Promise, any incoming life immediately transforms into a +1/+1 counter on the Mage. That counter drops a card into your hand via Fathom Mage's own eager triggers, which in turn wakes up Starving Revenant's Descend 8 ability to drain your opponent and hand you back that crucial chunk of life. As long as your graveyard is sufficiently stocked with permanent cards to satisfy Starving Revenant, that life gain loops right back into Light of Promise and Fathom Mage to keep the cycle spinning endlessly.
