How it works

1. Activate Ghave's first ability by paying 1 and removing a +1/+1 counter from a creature you control, creating a 1/1 Saproling creature token.
2. The Saproling enters the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter on it due to Metallic Mimic.
3. Activate Ghave's first ability by paying 1 and removing a +1/+1 counter from a creature you control.
4. Holding priority, activate Phyrexian Altar by sacrificing the Saproling, adding 1.
5. Resolve the Ghave ability, creating a 1/1 Saproling creature token.
6. Repeat from step 2.

This elegant loop relies on Metallic Mimic—with "Saproling" chosen as its creature type—to ensure every token you generate enters the battlefield already bearing a +1/+1 counter. That built-in counter feeds directly into Ghave, Guru of Spores, allowing you to pay one mana and remove it to spin out a brand new Saproling. Finally, sacrificing that token to Phyrexian Altar not only nets you the mana needed to keep Ghave's ability firing on repeat, but also fuels an endless stream of death, sacrifice, and entry triggers.
