How it works

  1. Cast the artifact by paying 0.
  2. Toph, Hardheaded Teacher triggers, earthbending Dimir Aqueduct.
  3. Resolve the artifact spell.
  4. Activate Need for Speed by sacrificing Dimir Aqueduct.
  5. When Dimir Aqueduct dies, Toph, Hardheaded Teach triggers, returning Dimir Aqueduct from your graveyard to the battlefield tapped.
  6. When Dimir Aqueduct enters, it triggers, returning the artifact cast in step 1 from the battlefield to your hand, as it's a land due to Toph, the First Metalbender.
  7. Resolve the Need for Speed ability
  8. Repeat.

This clever loop turns the battlefield into a perpetual motion machine by turning your zero-mana artifacts into lands using Toph, the First Metalbender. Because Toph, the First Metalbender makes them lands, Dimir Aqueduct's entry trigger can bounce the artifact right back to your hand after you cast it. Meanwhile, you sacrifice that animated Dimir Aqueduct to pay for Need for Speed's activation cost. This sends it to the graveyard, where Toph, Hardheaded Teacher's earthbending safety net—or the continuous cycling of the loop—brings it right back into play alongside Toph, Hardheaded Teacher herself and her ability to trigger earthbending whenever you cast a spell.
