How it works

1. Activate Kumena's first ability by tapping another nontoken Merfolk you control.
2. Deeproot Pilgrimage triggers, creating a 1/1 Merfolk creature token.
3. Resolve the Kumena ability.
4. Activate Umbral Collar Zealot by sacrificing the Merfolk token.
5. When the Merfolk dies, Faces of the Past triggers, untapping all Merfolk.
6. Resolve the Umbral Collar Zealot ability.
7. Repeat.

This clever loop centers on Kumena, Tyrant of Orazca, whose first ability lets you tap a Merfolk to make him unblockable—an action that Deeproot Pilgrimage immediately rewards by spawning a fresh 1/1 Merfolk token. You can then feed that brand-new token to Umbral Collar Zealot, whose sacrifice ability lets you surveil while sending the token to the graveyard. The magic truly happens when that death triggers Faces of the Past, untapping all your Merfolk so the whole cycle can begin anew. By looping this process, you generate infinite sacrifices and deaths while continuously churning through your library, eventually letting you switch to Kumena's other tapping abilities to draw your deck or grow your entire school infinitely large.
