How it works

1. Activate Phyrexian Altar by sacrificing Shield Sphere
2. When Shield Sphere dies, Mortuary triggers, putting Shield Sphere from your graveyard onto the top of your library.
3. Cast Shield Sphere from the top of your library by paying 0 life.
4. Repeat.

This clever loop turns the humble Shield Sphere into an infinite engine for mana and storm count. Because you can cast Shield Sphere for free from the top of your library—its mana cost being zero—Gwenom, Remorseless enables you to deploy it without paying mana or even the life penalty, bypassing its usual cost entirely. Once it's on the battlefield, you feed it directly to Phyrexian Altar to generate a colored mana and send it to the graveyard, where Mortuary immediately catches it and places it right back on top of your library to repeat the process.
