How it works

1. Activate Steelfin Whale using the ability granted to it by Hermetic Study by tapping it, dealing 1 damage to Smaug.
2. Smaug triggers, creating a Treasure token.
3. When the Treasure enters, Steelfin Whale triggers, untapping Steelfin Whale.
4. Repeat.

By enchanting Steelfin Whale with Hermetic Study, you grant the whale a way to ping itself or another target for 1 damage—in this case, turning its own activation directly onto Smaug the Impenetrable. Because Smaug the Impenetrable is indestructible, it happily survives the 1 damage, triggering its ability to generate a Treasure token. Every time that Treasure enters the battlefield, Steelfin Whale’s static triggered ability sees the new artifact and immediately untaps the whale, letting you tap it right back to repeat the loop for infinite treasures and mana.
