How it works

  1. Deal combat damage to an opponent using Obeka. Obeka triggers, causing you to get that many upkeep steps after this one.
  2. Move to your first extra upkeep. At the beginning of that upkeep, Braid of Fire triggers, putting an age counter on it and adding R mana for each age counter on it.
  3. Repeat step 2 for each other upkeep step.
  4. During your postcombat main phase, activate Aggravated Assault by paying 3R manaR mana, causing you to untap all creatures you control and get an additional combat and main phase after this one.
  5. Repeat.

This dazzling engine starts when Obeka, Splitter of Seconds connects with an opponent during combat, chaining a massive wave of extra upkeep steps your way. Those repeated upkeeps turn Braid of Fire into a torrential geyser of red mana as its age counters rapidly accumulate, fueling your entire operation. Thankfully, Ashling, Flame Dancer ensures that this sudden influx of unspent red mana safely persists through every shifting step and phase rather than vanishing into thin air. With your mana reserves secured, you can pour those resources into Aggravated Assault to endlessly untap your board and generate infinite combat phases, letting Obeka and the rest of your army crush the table over and over again.
