How it works

1. Cast the artifact by paying 0.
2. Toph, Hardheaded Teacher triggers, earthbending Izzet Boilerworks.
3. Resolve the artifact spell.
4. Activate Phyrexian Altar by sacrificing Izzet Boilerworks.
5. When Izzet Boilerworks dies, Toph, Hardheaded Teach triggers, returning Izzet Boilerworks from your graveyard to the battlefield tapped.
6. When Izzet Boilerworks enters, it triggers, returning the artifact cast in step 1 from the battlefield to your hand, as it's a land due to Toph, the First Metalbender.
7. Repeat.

This clever loop turns cheap artifact recasting into a self-sustaining engine by fundamentally altering your battlefield physics. Toph, the First Metalbender does the heavy lifting by turning all your nontoken artifacts into lands, meaning the 0/0 land-creatures created by Toph, Hardheaded Teacher's earthbend triggers can be unceremoniously fed to Phyrexian Altar for any color of mana. Because Izzet Boilerworks enters the battlefield with a bounce trigger that targets a land you control, it picks right back up the artifact you just recast for free. Whenever that land-creature eventually dies or is exiled—or is sacrificed to Phyrexian Altar—its earthbend replacement effect brings it right back to the battlefield tapped, instantly re-triggering Izzet Boilerworks' bounce ability to keep the cycle spinning infinitely.
